(CNN) -- Facebook's new "Graph Search" promises to let users sift through the network's vast trove of posts and photos to produce more helpful results. Need an easy way, for example, to find all your friends who watch "Homeland?" Or all Facebook photos of you posted before 2009? Now you have one. But not everyone on social media was excited about the new search tool, which will begin rolling out to users soon and (again! ) raises privacy concerns. And of course, there was sarcasm aplenty. Here's a sampling of the conversation. Unable to see the Storify below? Please click here.

Spammers are tricky adversaries: If e-mail spam filters seek out words like “enlargement” then spammers switch up their approach. “Spam changes a lot — it starts looking more like ham,” said Richard Colbaugh on December 5. Now Colbaugh and Kristin Glass, both of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, have created a one-two punch that anticipates new tactics and makes antispam programs less predictable. Training filters, for example, to look for bits of ham mixed with spam, such as several nonspammy words, will help detect even cleverly disguised spam. And instead of using one superior filter all the time, spam fighters should mix up their weaponry. Keeping several filters on hand can keep spammers from deducing and evading antispam tactics. Paid sick leave is an HR dilemma.

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.

A sneak peek at the New Yahoo homepage

The Yahoo homepage — which is a mix of mobile-friendly online styles from Microsoft’s Windows 8 to Flipboard to Pinterest — is close to its official launch, perhaps as early as this week, according to sources close to the situation. Here is the latest version that is appearing in some browsers — this one in Mozilla’s Firefox, for example — that looks a lot like previous versions I have posted. The touchscreen-tiled approach seems to be the favored design, which seems to be aimed at being consumed on touch-responsive, non-PC devices. Also part of the look, which is still being tweaked, as I have previously written: More simplified icons for various Yahoo properties, fewer text links, additional social and personalization aspects. The latest redo is now being iterated under the regime of new CEO Marissa Mayer, under the code name Project Homerun.
