David Becker/Getty Images Exactly what 's the coolest new gadget at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week? It's prematurely to tell. However I have an early favorite for the title of oddest new gadget: the HAPIfork and HAPIspoon. They could seem like characters from a nursery rhyme, however this fork and spoon connect to the Internet and could oversee and tape how you consume. The HAPI utensils measure how long your dishes last, how long you pause between each bite and how many mouthfuls of food you eat.

Paralyzed Mom Controls Robotic Arm Using Her Thoughts

After years of paralysis, the one thing Jan Scheuermann wanted was to feed herself. Now, thanks to a mind-controlled robotic arm, Scheuermann has done just that. Stricken with spinocerebellar degeneration since 1996, Sheuermann, 52, has progressively lost control of all motor function from the neck down. By implanting two quarter-inch-by-quarter-inch electrodes in her brain and connecting them to a sophisticated robotic arm, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center have allowed the mother of two to manipulate objects by using only her thoughts through a brain-computer interface, or BCI. Before the surgery that connected some 96 electrode prongs in her brain, the Pennsylvania woman told researchers she wanted to do something very specific if all went well. “They asked me if there was something special I wanted to do,” Sheuermann said.

(CNN) -- Facebook's new "Graph Search" promises to let users sift through the network's vast trove of posts and photos to produce more helpful results. Need an easy way, for example, to find all your friends who watch "Homeland?" Or all Facebook photos of you posted before 2009? Now you have one. But not everyone on social media was excited about the new search tool, which will begin rolling out to users soon and (again! ) raises privacy concerns. And of course, there was sarcasm aplenty. Here's a sampling of the conversation. Unable to see the Storify below? Please click here.

"Dear Instagram, Good-bye old friend... it isn't me it's you," Brian Simpson wrote on his Facebook wall as he shut down his Instagram account. It was the first thing he did when he read of Instagram's first big policy change since it was acquired by Facebook in April. Instagram, the popular service for sharing and filtering photos shot on phones, has now released changes to its Terms of Use, which will go into effect on Jan. 16, 2013 for all users. "Our community has grown a lot since we wrote our original terms of service. To get things up to date for the millions of people now using Instagram, we're bringing you new versions of our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service," Instagram wrote on its blog. It quickly had something of an online rebellion on its hands.

Here's a fun fact: Hackers, just like bankers, real estate agents and collectors of Star Trek memorabilia, attend conferences. Even better: they play games at the conferences. One of the games they play has attendees aggressively competing to access any device in the hall, thereby demonstrating prowess in obtaining sensitive information. The goal is to exploit any vulnerability, or crack that which is perceived to be impenetrable, and share details for both educational purposes and bragging rights. This is the kind of thing you'd expect at a Black Hat hacker conference and why people with sensitive information on computers probably shouldn't bring them to the party. Especially employees of the Securities and Exchange Commission Trading and Markets division. And they really shouldn't have brought their computers with them. Except they did. Yes. This really happened.
