Facebook to overhaul its privacy controls | Synopsis

Facebook to overhaul its privacy controls

Excerpt:

(CNN) -- Facebook announced a major overhaul to its privacy controls Wednesday, adding a handful of features while simplifying and clarifying the ways users can already tweak their accounts. The changes, which will roll out over the next few weeks, include a new tool that lets users ask for photos of them to be removed from the site. Also being upgraded is a tool that lets users see what other people can -- and can't -- see on their Facebook pages. In addition, users will get more control over the apps they enable on the site by gaining the ability to grant permission for some access requests but deny others. Facebook says the changes are designed to help users better control, and understand, the information they're sharing on a site with roughly 1 billion accounts. "We deeply believe that surprises are bad," said Sam Lessin, Facebook's director of product development.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
