Mesa Mayor Scott Smith told The Arizona Republic (http://bit. ly/Rxxtgr) in a story Thursday that he will no longer try to broker an agreement unless the sides show some willingness to come together. The proposed agreement had been in the works for more than a year after the Cubs invited ASU to share the facility under construction. The Arizona Board of Regents accepted a general memorandum of understanding with the Cubs late last year. The deal fell apart as the sides tried to fill in the details of the agreement. ASU wants to save the cost of building a replacement for Tempe's Packard Stadium, where the Sun Devils have played since 1974.
